Topic: Don’t Focus On The Blessings [Friday, 24th Mar. 2017]

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy. 1 Timothy 6:17

Every one of us, at different points in our Christian walk, have gotten blessings from God which got us so amazed, and so obsessed with the blessing that we started treasuring the blessing to the point of idolatry. It happens. Because of our human nature, and our tendency to walk with what our senses can perceive, it is easy for us to get caught up in the blessings or gifts, that we can see, and forget the Giver, whom we do not see.

This can be quite disastrous to both us and our relationship with God. Because as we begin to trust in “uncertain riches” we are tell God indirectly that He doesn’t matter, which inevitably distances our hearts from Him. How then do we prevent this? By rejecting a gift from God, or telling Him not to bless us? That won’t work because as believers we have unavoidably subscribed to the blessings of God which is “without repentance”. So God will continually bless us whether we like it or not. What we can, however, do is ask God for the grace to never lose sight of Him no matter the circumstance and time.

Another way not to get caught up in the gift of God is provided in 1 Timothy 6:18-19: “…be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.” Proverbs 10:22 says, “the blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow it.” God would not bless you so you’ll be sorrowful. Trusting and focusing on riches and forgetting God is sorrowful. Don’t do that to yourself. Don’t focus on the blessings, focus on God, the Giver of the blessings.

Keep winning daily.

Prayer:

Dear loving Father, thank You for all of Your blessings upon my life. Help me and teach me to always focus on You, and never to shift my attention from You, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
