Topic: Good Works, Very Essential — Sunday, 13th August 2017.

This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. Titus 3:8

Yes, we are saved by grace, and we are even sustained by the grace that the Holy Spirit supplies. But we must understand this: good works are very essential to us who believe in God. We need it. We were predestined to do good works (Ephesians 2:10). God is happy to see us do good works. Good works in this regard is not just doing good to others, but also maintaining righteous works and conduct. Scriptures say that he who does righteousness is righteous (1 John 3:7). So, good and righteous works are essential to us, and we must do them.

Our lead scripture is explicit on why we need to maintain good works. Firstly, it is good to do good works, very good. And secondly, they are profitable to men, that is, they profit the recipients of these good works. “…that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men” (Titus 3:8). Scriptures tell us that “the Spirit’s presence is shown in some way in each person for the good of all” (1 Corinthians 12:7). God wants each person to not only be beneficiaries of good works, but to also be doers of good works. This is the way we would be blessings to people.

Talking about the other aspect of good works, which is our conduct, it is also essential we maintain good conducts in our closet and also in the open. People who are outside the church must also see our conduct to be chaste. Apostle Paul, while enumerating the qualities of a bishop, said in 1 Timothy 3:7 that, “moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.” We cannot do without good works. It is essential to us have believed in God. Good works are not going to save us, but they are profitable to us and to the people who are recipients of them.

Keep winning daily.

Prayer:

Dear Father, thank You for Your salvation which You have given me. Thank You for programming me to exercise good works and conduct. I trust Your Spirit which is at work in me to continually help me to maintain good works, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
