Text: Esther 9:13-19 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Then said Esther, If it please the king, let it be granted to the Jews which are in Shushan to do to morrow also according unto this day’s decree, and let Haman’s ten sons be hanged upon the gallows” (Esther 9:13).

MESSAGE:

Samson’s riddle, “Out of the eater came forth meat, and out of the strong came forth sweetness” gave the Philistines sleepless nights. Since they had a good prize to win if they correctly interpreted it and a price to pay if they got it wrong, they laboured for days to figure it out.

That riddle may also be rightly applied to the case of the Jews and Haman with his cohorts. The powerful Anti-semitic Haman hatched a malicious plot to exterminate the Jews after obtaining a royal approval. He drafted a terrible decree against the Jews and affixed the king’s seal on it. The decree was circulated to all the Persian provinces to mobilise executioners. Through divine intervention, the decree was reversed. Haman was hanged on the gallows he had prepared for Mordecai. Another decree was signed by the king empowering the Jews to defend themselves against their enemies.

On the appointed day, the Jews slew their aggressors in all the king’s provinces. Esther requested for a repeat of the exercise in Shushan the following day to forestall a potential mistake. Following the counter edict from the king, some of the Jew’s enemies went into hiding only to resurface the next day when the edict would have expired. Those murderous men remained a threat to the Jews. On the second day, 300 of them were killed in Shushan and the bodies of Haman’s sons were publicly hanged upon the gallows to deter others from repeating their evil. Thus did the Jews eliminate all their enemies and had rest.

We must fight against sin and Satan – the twin enemies of our souls. Forsake sin with penitence and receive Jesus as Saviour to have power to conquer Satan and all other enemies. All who receive Him are given power for victory over all enemies.

Thought For The Day: The sin you spare will never spare you.

Bible Reading in a Year: Leviticus 26-27.

Flatimes’ Notice Board: Please do not prolong your salvation if you have not repented. Many are going home daily and tomorrow maybe too late…There is still hope, JESUS LOVES YOU!
