Topic: When God Blesses [August 24, 2016]

Text: 2 Chronicles 9:23-31

Key Verse: “And the king made silver in Jerusalem as stones, and cedar trees made he as the sycomore trees that are in the low plains in abundance” (2 Chronicles 9:27).

The very first person to reach the status of billionaire was a certain man who knew how to set goals and follow through. At the age of 23, he had become a millionaire, by the age of 50 a billionaire. Every decision, attitude, and relationship was tailored to create his personal power and wealth. But three years later at the age of 53, he became ill. His entire body became racked with pain and he lost all the hair on his head. In complete agony, the world’s only billionaire called his attoeys, accountants, and managers and announced that he wanted to channel his assets to hospitals, research, and mission work.

On that day, John D. Rockefeller established his foundation. From passage, God was clearly the source of Solomon’s wealth. His vast fortune was not a result of his hard work, goal- setting and business acumen. Right after his prayer at the high place at Gibeon and God’s promise to endow him with great wisdom and riches, things turned around for the best for Solomon. The sea was propitious unto him as a constant navy of ships brought the purest of gold from distant lands. Kings and rulers from far and near brought unsolicited presents, including rare vessels of gold and silver, clothes, spices, horses and mules every year to mention a few. The territories under Israel’s rule continued to increase.

When God blesses someone, he operates under an open heaven and favour from men increases. God can do it again in our present-day. He promised to pour out his blessing until there shall not be enough room to receive it. But we must learn to seek him early.

Thought for the day: Favour sets a man apart from his contemporaries.
