MFM Devotional For Today 2025 MESSAGE:

Fault finding refers to continual criticism. This kind of criticism is usually not constructive; its aim mostly is to bring down the other person. This is quite different from correcting your brethren in love. Fault finding means finding what is wrong instead of seeing good; always having something negative to say.

Fault finding, unfortunately, can be found in today’s church. This is a character trait that cannot be traced to Christ. Jesus Christ, our role model, is an embodiment of compassion. This is clearly evidenced by the story of the woman caught in adultery, recorded in John 8:3-11. The scribes and the Pharisees brought the woman to Jesus and judged that she should be stoned to death, according to the Law of Moses. Jesus could have condemned her because He was perfect, but He chose the path of compassion. He said, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her” (v. 7). When her accusers heard that, they were convicted by their own conscience and every one of them walked away one by one, not willing to judge her anymore.

Fault finders usually do not see any good in the efforts of other people. They put on the air of perfection and act as if they are incapable of making mistakes. Such people easily offend others through their actions and speeches. They focus on everyone’s faults except theirs. They criticize but rarely compliment. Fault finders have a self-righteous attitude, a sense of superiority, and they refuse to admit wrong. Finding fault sows discord among brethren; it divides and does great damage.

Beloved, fault finding is not a spiritual gift. Examine your life carefully and ask yourself the following questions: Am I a fault finder? Do I think I’m better than everyone else? Do I always condemn the efforts and actions of other people? Your answers to these questions will tell you whether or not you are a fault finder.

If you discover that you easily find faults with others, run to God in repentance and ask for help. You need to realize that you are not perfect and only the grace of God can keep any man standing. Ask God for grace to love others like Jesus and be more empathetic towards them.
