TOPIC: What Are You Looking At? (TREM Devotional 14 May 2025)
“And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: ‘Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward; for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.’” (Genesis 13:14-15 NKJV)
MESSAGE:
Imagine that Abram would have distraught and confused after Lot chose the better, well-watered and more lush part of the land before them. However, God came to him after Lot had gone and said; “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are”. God was inadvertently saying, “Abram, I know you are disappointed at how things have turned out despite your best efforts to prevent it, but do not fall into the trap of focusing on that event.” Rather than focus on them, look from where you are, as far as you can see (including what Lot took), it all belongs to you.
So, I ask you today beloved, ‘What are you looking at?’ Have you allowed the disappointments of life to overwhelm you, and influence your confession, such that you find yourself speaking the realities of your condition, forgetting that death and life are in the power of the tongue? You have a choice to make; what you say in this situation is a function of what you are focused on. The lazy, cowardly choice is to look at your circumstance and speak based on it, whilst the bold, courageous, faith-filled choice is to look from where you are – in spite of the situation, and speak the realities of God’s promises to that situation. Choose the path of life; look from where you are.
My heart bleeds when I see believers act so fearful, like God has ceased being the Almighty. Has the Word ceased to be impregnable, errorless, infallible, authoritative, and irrevocable? Look from where you are, beloved – God’s Word will not fall to the ground. In the book of Zechariah 9:12, the prisoners of hope were told to look up to the stronghold. It is the place where restoration is guaranteed. We are prisoners of hope, not prisoners of hopelessness. We have joyful, confident expectations that things will turn around in our favour.
Have you forgotten that nothing ever works against the believer? The tables will always turn in our favour. Covenant will speak for you. Turn to the stronghold. Stop looking at your challenges. Stop looking at the terror. We are prisoners of hope. We are prisoners of confident expectations.
The Lord shall render double unto you. For everything you have lost, double is your portion. That is what the Lord will do when you turn to the stronghold and not look at your circumstances.
