TOPIC: Where Is Your Trust? (TREM Devotional 19 May 2025)
“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.” (Psalm 20:7 KJV)
MESSAGE:
We remember the Lord by putting our faith and trust in His name, knowing that we will not be forsaken. The wise man said that the name of the Lord is a Strong Tower: the righteous runs into it and is safe (Proverbs 18:10 KJV). Safety in this context is all encompassing, covering all areas of life, and not only referring to protection and security.
Consider the story of Goliath and the children of Israel once again: the Bible dedicates four verses to describe Goliath’s armour and to highlight his intimidating presence (1 Samuel 17:4-7). He had terrorized God’s people for 40 days and nights. They could not sleep, with his reverberating in their ears and minds. Beloved, I wonder what voice you are hearing concerning your career, profession, marital life, finances, children, and health? Who has spoken hopelessness into your life? Goliath was a terror to God’s people, and as long as Saul and his armies kept their focus on him, they could not see any way out. Yes, they were God’s covenant people and had all the promises, but it was not sufficient to be delivered!
You cannot claim to be a child of God, if your life is primarily influenced by newspapers, social media, friends, and peers. Understand that whatever you feed your mind with, is what influences your life, and determines where your trust will be.
David had a robust relationship with God, such that when he faced Goliath, he did not dignify him by calling him by name. Rather, he referred to him as an “uncircumcised Philistine”, as a result of his understanding of the covenant relationship Israel had with God. David not only understood the covenant relationship God had with Israel, but he also personalized it for himself. As such, it influenced his thinking and approach to circumstances, knowing he had a covenant with God. David’s irrefutable trust was not in anything else but in the Lord, and it was visible throughout his life. Any wonder why he is still regarded as the greatest king in Israel. Beloved, the direction and course of your life, is predicated on where your trust is.
