TOPIC: Living To Please God

READ: Colossians 3:1-11 (NKJV)

  1. If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.
  2. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
  3. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
  4. When Christ [who is] our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
  5. Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
  6. Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience,
  7. in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.
  8. But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.
  9. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds,
  10. and have put on the new [man] who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,
  11. where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave [nor] free, but Christ [is] all and in all.

THE MESSAGE:

Today is the beginning of Rogation Days – a period devoted to praying for our occupations. It is remarkable that this period comes after Easter and our passage today has a post-resurrection message for us. What then is the relationship between the Rogation period, Easter and our text today? It is very simple: That since we have risen with Christ, our affection should be on things above. In other words, having risen from sin and worldliness, our focus and goal should be on eternal things, so that our legitimate means of income are no longer our master but a means to serve the Lord.

When you see your occupation through the mirror of God’s word, you will realise that you have to engage in that occupation in line with God’s word, as a means of serving Christ, and God will be committed to blessing your occupation. As you grow in this experience, you will know the true meaning of godly prosperity, and giving will no longer be a struggle because it will become clear to you that it is actually from what God has given you that you give back to Him. Then, our occupation becomes a means of pleasing God. Does your occupation please God?

PRAYER: Lord, please help me that today and always, I will live to please You, Amen
