TOPIC: A Christian Is A Living Stone

READ: 1 Peter 2:1-10(NKJV)

  1. Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking,
  2. as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,
  3. if indeed you have tasted that the Lord [is] gracious.
    2:4. Coming to Him [as to] a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God [and] precious,
  4. you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
  5. Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.”
  6. Therefore, to you who believe, [He is] precious; but to those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone,”
  7. and “A stone of stumbling And a rock of offense.” They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.
  8. But you [are] a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
  9. who once [were] not a people but [are] now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

THE MESSAGE:

In Hebrews 3:4, we are reminded that every house has a builder, and God is the creator of all things. The concept of God’s temple has moved from a physical structure of stones and mortar to a spiritual dwelling composed of people ‘living stones’ as Apostle Paul repeatedly emphasised in his letters.

God’s temple is now within us (2 Cor. 3:2), and each believer serves as a living stone. Unlike lifeless stones, we are vibrant, breathing, and created in God’s image, possessing the new life given through the ‘new birth’ (1 Pet. 1:3). While some Christians may appear as lifeless stones, it’s not God’s intention for it to be so.

Jesus, The Living Stone, desires to fill us with passion for Christian virtues. He wants us to be enthusiastic about our spiritual life and the hope of our salvation. Our identity as ‘living stones’ is defined by Jesus Christ; without Him, we will not fulfil purpose as a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation and a peculiar people (1 Pet. 2:9).

PRAYER:

Thank you father, for making me a living stone and spiritual house, Amen!
