TOPIC: It Is Not Over Yet!

READ: 2 Samuel 10:15-19 (NKJV)

  1. When the Syrians saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they gathered together.
  2. Then Hadadezer sent and brought out the Syrians who [were] beyond the River, and they came to Helam. And Shobach the commander of Hadadezer’s army [went] before them.
  3. When it was told David, he gathered all Israel, crossed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in battle array against David and fought with him.
  4. Then the Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed seven hundred charioteers and forty thousand horsemen of the Syrians, and struck Shobach the commander of their army, who died there.
  5. And when all the kings [who were] servants to Hadadezer saw that they were defeated by Israel, they made peace with Israel and served them. So the Syrians were afraid to help the people of Ammon anymore.

THE MESSAGE:

Sometimes, we are besieged by problems of life which look like they will swallow us up the next moment. Some persons have succumbed to defeat as a result of this. Some others who were fighting the problems initially and seeming to be making progress have abandoned their resistance too early when the battle is yet to end.

In our text today, even when it was obvious that the Syrians were losing the battle, yet Hadarezer sent and brought out the Syrians that were beyond the river in a fresh reinforcement against Israel. David, who was not originally in the battle, had to mobilize other Israelites and met the Syrians at Helam. At last, the Syrians were not only defeated, but fled from the army of Israel. Since we know that wherever we find ourselves in life’s battles, God’s Presence is with us, let us fight to the very end, with the confidence of victory.

The devil and his agents do not give up, even in the face of defeat, so we too must not let down our offensive against hell, until our last breath.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to fight to the very end, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
