TOPIC: Burn The Ships! (DCLM Daily Manna 25 September 2025)

TEXT: 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 (KJV)
1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.
4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:
French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte used to order his troops to burn their ships as they launched a new battle in foreign countries. It was a way of telling them there was no possibility of retreating or allowing defeat. They must win the war, capture the enemy territory, and make it their new home. They must begin a new life in the new land they overrun and teach the conquered people the French culture, philosophy, and lifestyle. Thus, the soldiers would fight to win, given this bleak
opportunity to return home.

That is what Jesus Christ expects of us after transforming our hearts through His redemptive work. Apostle Paul got the message and told the Corinthian church that he had brought nothing from his past when he visited them. He did not present any of the teachings of his law studies or the Judaism of his old Pharisaic life. He had burnt his ships, as it were. All he now carried with him was Christ Jesus, who died and was resurrected. He taught in the wisdom and power of this Son of God. He told them not to operate in the wisdom of men but to possess faith in the power of God.
Forsaking the sinful past for a new life in Christ is a clean break that establishes a new world in which the Lord takes preeminence. He is Lord over us, and all that is ours. As our status in the world recedes after salvation, we must on no account, permit the world and its allurements to creep in again. Instead, we must accept and live by the sound doctrines we have learned from the Lord, even as we continue to teach others and win them for heaven.
This new personality takes the place of the dead old man. Guided in the details and decisions of our lives by Christ’s word, we let the world know the difference between man’s weakness and the “demonstration of the Spirit and of power” of Christ. This is what God uses to convict and convince the sinner and the backslider to change their evil ways.
