TOPIC – Strive For The Faith
READ: Jude 1:1-6 (NKJV)
- Jude, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, To those who are called, sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ:
- Mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.
- Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.
- For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.
- But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.
- And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day;
THE MESSAGE:
Today we celebrate the feasts of Saint Simon and Saint Jude, two of the twelve apostles. From the little we know about them, we can find an example of what it means to love one another and to strive for the faith. They went on to be faithful witnesses of the saving power of Jesus. They were not so famous but they faithfully followed the cause of the Lord Jesus. They started out as regular people like you and I, but through their relationship with Christ, they went on to do great things – striving for the one, true and only faith. Now Jude charges us to contend for the true faith which source is the word of God. Those who pervert the word of God or refuse to believe it, shall be condemned.
Beloved, there may be many people around you that are not truly saved. But while you pray for their salvation, do not judge them. Just heed the warnings of Scripture and contend for the faith as the apostles did. If this faith matters to you, and if it defines you, and it is a priority for you, you will be obliged to defend it. You must strive for the faith that He has blessed us with as we wait eagerly for His coming.
PRAYER: Father, help me to be zealous and faithful in making known Your love and mercy, Amen!
