BIBLE PASSAGE: 1 Kings 11:1-6 (KJV)
1 But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites:
2 Of the nations concerning which the Lord said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love.
3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart.
4 For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father.
5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.
6 And Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord, and went not fully after the Lord, as did David his father.
INTRODUCTION: Destiny is God’s divine purpose and preplanned destination for a person’s life. It represents the totality of God’s counsel and what He has ordained for an individual even before conception (Jeremiah 1:5). While destiny is a beautiful and purposeful plan, it is still influenced by one’s attitude and willingness to align with God’s will. Failure to do so may expose us to destiny destroyers-things that could derail or hinder the fulfilment of God’s plan for our lives. By staying obedient and trusting in God’s direction, we can walk in the fullness of the destiny He has prepared for us.
LESSON AIM: To study some destiny destroyers and victims of destiny destroyers.
TEACHING OBJECTIVES: Through this lesson, students should be able to:
a. Discover those things that can destroy destinies.
b. Discover some examples of people who were victims of destiny-destroying forces.

1. EXAMPLES OF DESTINY DESTROYERS
2. BIBLICAL INSTANCES
LESSON OUTLINE 1: EXAMPLES OF DESTINY DESTROYERS
Some destiny destroyers are mentioned below.
- Ignorance: Lack of knowledge of God’s plan for our lives is a significant destiny destroyer (Hosea 4:6). When we are unaware of our purpose, we may lack focus, leading to destruction. True knowledge of the truth sets us free and guides us toward our destiny (John 8:32).
- Pursuit of Vanity: Solomon’s pursuit of vanity and wealth led to his backsliding and loss of rection. Failure to manage wealth and the lack of self-control can derail one’s destiny (Ecclesiastes 2:10-11).
- Lack of Faith: This can destroy destiny by hindering our ability to trust and rely on God’s guidance (1 Timothy 1:19; Hebrews 11:6).
- Pride: Unreasonable and inordinate self-esteem can lead to a fall and hinder the fulfilment of one’s destiny. Pride leads to divine resistance (James 4:6).
- Sinful Lifestyles: Unconfessed sin provokes God’s anger and prevents a person from fulfilling destiny. Living in sin hinders both earthly purpose and eternal promise (1 John 3:4).
- Anger: Uncontrolled anger can cause individuals to deviate from God’s purpose, leading to missed opportunities and destruction (Proverbs 29:22).
- Laziness: Slothfulness prevents individuals from fulfilling their potential, leaving them perpetually under the influence of more industrious individuals (Proverbs 12:24).
- Prayerlessness: This creates openings for the enemy to attack one’s destiny. Prayer is crucial for maintaining alignment with God’s purpose (Matthew 13:25).
To fulfil our destiny, we must avoid these destroyers.
CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students should mention some of the things people are engaged in that are capable of destroying their destinies.
LESSON OUTLINE 2: BIBLICAL INSTANCES
Several individuals in the Bible experienced total destruction of their destinies due to their choices and actions. These examples highlight the consequences of deviating from God’s will:
- Judas Iscariot: He allowed greed and betrayal to destroy his destiny. Judas betrayed Jesus and his actions led to his tragic end (Matthew 27:3-5).
- Demas: Once a companion of the apostle Paul, he abandoned his faith and ministry, choosing worldly desires over his divine calling. His love for the world ultimately led to the destruction of his destiny (2 Timothy 4:10).
- Gehazi: The greedy servant of Elisha who lied and took gifts unlawfully. This singular action resulted in the curse of leprosy upon him and his descendants (2 Kings 5:20-27).
- Reuben: Jacob’s firstborn who lost his birthright due to illicit sex with his father’s concubine. His actions led to a forfeiture of his position and inheritance (Genesis 49:3-4).
- Achan: His disobedience in taking spoils from Jericho led to the destruction of his family and the defeat of Israel in battle. His sin resulted in the loss of his life and that of his household (Joshua 7:24-25).
CLASS ACTIVITY 2: How would you advise someone who is destroying his destiny unknowingly?
CONCLUSION: To avoid destiny destroyers and fulfil God’s purpose for our lives, we must fully surrender to Him and align ourselves with His will.
EVALUATION: How did Gehazi destroy his destiny?
CLOSING PRAYER: Saviour, please do not let me permit anything to destroy my destiny in Jesus’ name.
ASSIGNMENT: Mention five people in the Bible whose destinies were destroyed and the causes. (2×5=10 Marks).
SUNDAY SCHOOL HYMN
- O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
O how I love Thee well,
I am happy, it makes me glad
To rejoice at Thy birth. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Thy friend friendship suits me well,
Both young and will sing Thy song,
We long for Sunday School. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Christ was Thy first teacher,
The Holy Spirit, great teacher,
Does manifest in thee. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds be black with rain,
I’ll be in Sunday School. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?
