TOPIC: The Word Has Become Flesh
READ: John 1:1-14 (NKJV)
- In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
- He was in the beginning with God.
- All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
- In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
- And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
- There was a man sent from God, whose name [was] John.
- This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.
- He was not that Light, but [was sent] to bear witness of that Light.
- That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
- He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.
- He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
- But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
- who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
- And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
THE MESSAGE:
We come once again to Christmas, and it’s time to hear the truth of our faith. The Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger is Almighty God who is born to struggle like a man with this world, and as He departs from it, He will carry with Him forever, the marks of His humiliation. No other god can speak to our condition because no other god ever became flesh! This Jesus who is God became flesh and dwelt among men. It is remarkable that God Himself would be this perfect sin-saving, peace-giving, light-shining leader, who would live among us and die to unite us fully with God. We gasp at such a revelation, but it’s true. The Word has become flesh. And that is the meaning of Christmas. Can you see why we should sing our favourite carol today from the rooftops, as loudly as we dare, celebrating God’s great love in sending Jesus?
Let the Christmas Word who has become flesh be our perfect teacher so that in His life, we may see how God thinks and how we should think. Let Him be our perfect example – as a model of what we are to become, to show us how to live and give us the power to live that way; and let Him be our perfect sacrifice – He who came as a sacrifice for all sins, that His death may satisfy God’s requirements for the removal of our sins.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, thank You for coming to us, living among us, and being our Saviour; Amen!
