TOPIC: Shining As Lights In The World

READ: Matthew 4:12-17 (KJV)

12 Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;

13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:

14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;

16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

THE MESSAGE:

John’s imprisonment made Jesus to go to Capernaum, near the Sea of Galilee. He thereby fulfilled the prophecy concerning the land of Zebulon and Naphtali, where the inhabitants saw a great light. It was from that time that Jesus preached that men should repent, for the Kingdom of God was near.

As the ministry of the forerunner, John the Baptist, came to an end, that of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, began. Capernaum happens to be Christ’s ministerial base or headquarters. The influence that His presence would bring to this location and its environs was long prophesied: “The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.” We have in our time, the multiplication of Churches, yet little or no impact! Darkness seems to pervade our society and has even encroached on the Church. We must rise and shine as lights in the midst of a crooked and perverse world, as this is what makes us Christians (Philippians 2:15). How often do you preach the Gospel to unbelievers? Determine to win a soul today by preaching Christ, where you are!

PRAYER: Father, hold me up in Your hand to remain a shining light in this world.
