TOPIC: Come, Bless The Lord!

READ: Psalm 134:1-3 (KJV)

1 Behold, bless ye the Lord, all ye servants of the Lord, which by night stand in the house of the Lord.

2 Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the Lord.

3 The Lord that made heaven and earth bless thee out of Zion.

THE MESSAGE:

The ‘Servants of the Lord’ in Solomon’s Temple included singers and heads of Levitical families who needed to work in shifts to cover both the day and night (1 Chronicles 9:33).

They often greeted each other with words similar to the ones in this Psalm. The call in verse 1 is for God’s servants to ‘praise’ or ‘bless’ Him in the sanctuary. This means acknowledging who God is, His power, His love for us humans and thanking Him for the benefits He showers upon us on a daily basis. This praise may involve singing, lifting up or clapping of hands, dancing, or using of a variety of musical instruments, among others (Psalm 47:1; 149;1-6).

Let us learn to give a sacrifice of praise to God continually (Hebrews 13:15). This should begin from our homes – involving all members of the household – and then extend to the Church, fellowship and even place of business. In this way, as highlighted in verse 3, the “Lord who made heaven and earth” will bless us from Zion. Do you make out time praise God daily? Try praising the Lord always. Count your blessings, name them one by one and it will surprise you why you should praise the Lord.

PRAYER: O God, bless us from heaven as we praise and bless Your Holy Name.
