TOPIC: God Rewards Faithfulness

READ: Ruth 4:16-22 (KJV)

16 And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it.

17 And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David.

18 Now these are the generations of Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron,

19 And Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab,

20 And Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon,

21 And Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed,

22 And Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.

THE MESSAGE:

The daughter-in-law of Naomi, who left at her advice, was Orpah. The other, Ruth, remained with her against hope. This was actually the last mention of Orpah in the Bible. Although life was not easy for Ruth as she tried to earn a living by becoming an uninvited worker at the farm of Boaz, yet she never succumbed to the uncertainty surrounding her. By the mercies of God, she found favour before Boaz. Yet she was never distracted, but worked hard in the field until evening (Ruth 2:17).

In our text today, we see Naomi carrying with joy the son that Ruth gave birth to. The neighbours who were probably witnesses to Naomi’s misery rejoiced with her. The son that was born to her was Obed, the father of Jesse, the father of David, from whose lineage Jesus came into the world. By this record, Ruth was not only made happy, but became relevant in the story of the salvation of man, while Orpah was long gone and forgotten. Never give up. Keep trusting in God, doing your best all round. As God remembered Naomi and Ruth, so has He promised to remember you.

PRAYER: Father, remember me for good as I trust You in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
