TOPIC: Go Near, And Join Them (DCLM Daily Manna 6 April 2026)
KEY VERSE: Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot – Acts 8:29
TEXT: Acts 8:25-30 (KJV)
25 And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.
26 And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.
27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,
28 Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.
29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.
30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:
Some Christians often face a dilemma over how to navigate between the need to ensure they are not compromised by the world’s systems and practices and Jesus’ demand that they preach the gospel to every creature. Unable to find a lasting balance, they distance themselves from unbelievers, including religious people, and in the process, they become ineffective in evangelism.
Philip, who had lately had a highly successful ministry in Samaria, was suddenly given marching orders by the angel of the Lord to head quickly to the Gaza desert. He responded promptly, only to face a lonely but prominent foreign traveller, the treasurer of Candace, Queen of Ethiopia. He had come to worship in Jerusalem, in what could today be termed a pilgrimage. He was now on his way back to his country, and in his chariot, he was engrossed in the book of Isaiah. It took Philip’s prompting from the Spirit of God to approach the man in the chariot. Philip ran promptly to the man. His next move was a master stroke, as he quickly struck up a conversation with the man by questioning whether he understood what he was reading. We must follow the leading of the Spirit of God at all times.
We must also heed His instructions and guidance, even if what He asks us to do seems incomprehensible. Our responsibility is not only to the obvious sinners, but also to the religious people who possess a form of godliness even though they lack the power to live to please God. We must wisely draw near to such people to observe happenings around them, to discern their concerns and worries, and to use them as the entry point into a fruitful discussion on their need for salvation in Christ.
