BIBLE READING: 1 Timothy 6:6-10
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
MESSAGE:
Many people chase wealth and material possessions, yet they never find satisfaction. Recently, I read about a 21-year-old boy who sacrificed his girlfriend for money rituals. He was eventually arrested, tried in court, and sentenced to jail. Such stories are heartbreaking because they show how young people who are regarded as future leaders are engaging in acts that go against God’s will.
As a young boy or girl, you must develop contentment so that you won’t make choices you would regret in the future. Do not engage in shady deals, fraud, or illegal activities just because your parents cannot afford to give you a luxurious lifestyle. Likewise, do not compromise your chastity for money or material gifts. The Bible warns that the end for those who do such is destruction.
Contentment is a powerful shield against greed. When people learn to appreciate the things God has given to them, they will resist the temptation to compare themselves to others. My dear child, choose to be thankful to God always. Trust in His provision, and avoid the trap of endless desires that lead to destruction.
KEY POINT:
Be content with what you have.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Mark 14:51-72, Deuteronomy 23-25
HYMN 15: When We Walk With The Lord
1 When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
2 Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey.
3 But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.
4 Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.
