Topic: Busybody in Other Men’s Matter [Wednesday April 15, 2015]
“But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.” –1 Peter 4:15
As women, it is so easy to be tempted to talk on every and any issue. In fact, it seems one striking attribute that makes you a woman is your word power. So people can be found judging and commenting on any and all issues; forgetting that when a finger points at a person, three fingers points back at you. This is why the Bible advises that you remove the log from your own eyes before pointing out the speck in that of someone else.
I have been a minster’s wife for years, by virtue of the privilege of marriage, and I know how much information I am constantly you would be confronted with about others. Some are genuine areas of others where my help and encouragement is needed, but others have nothing to do with my person. They are told to me purely for the purpose of planting seeds of dislike for another person. I have walked with God long enough in this capacity to know when and how to say “enough!” and find my way out. This ability to tell the difference between both will help you also, and go a long way, in helping you fulfil your duty appropriately.
The Bible says, do not be busybodies in other men’s matter. This means you should concern yourself with your ministry and calling, and not be the chief commentator or judge of others. Do not go about looking for, or spreading the latest information about someone else. A busybody is one who is too interested in the private lives of others. You are to provide counsel, prayers and help to people, not investigate what goes on and does not go on in their lives.
So, if you are in the habit of being the private investigator of your church members, neighbours or those in your fellowship, you should cease from this, as God is against such a habit. You ought to be godly examples to those you are overseeing. They should see you as a role model; one they can confide in and not one that they dread talking to. God has seen you as responsible and that was why He placed you in this position. So use that opportunity to cater for the needs of your flock. You will not fail in the name of Jesus!
Remain Blessed!
