MFM Devotional For Today 2026 MESSAGE:
2 Kings 5:18-19 highlights Naaman’s newfound faith in the God of Israel and his desire to worship Him exclusively, while also acknowledging a potential conflict between his loyalty to his boss the Syrian King due to his position as a high-ranking military official who must escort the king everywhere he goes. Naaman therefore requested forgiveness from the Lord in performing his official duties whenever he escorted the king to the temple of Rimmon, and the king leans on him for support while worshipping the idol. He recognized that his presence with the king in the temple of Rimmon could be seen as an endorsement of idolatry. And to his request the Prophet Elisha, a representative and mouthpiece of God, responded, “Go in Peace,” meaning that God had waived it for him.
Naaman’s request for forgiveness is not a sign of backsliding or compromise, but a demonstration of his genuine desire to worship God alone and avoid any actions that might be interpreted as idolatry. His request for forgiveness suggests a sincere heart and a commitment to his newfound faith. He wasn’t going back on his decision to follow the true God.
As church leaders, we must be aware that as our new converts are getting to know and get grounded in Christ, the growth of some will be sporadic while some will be slow. The important thing is not to make anyone feel unwanted because of their current level of spiritual understanding. We must create room for growth. This is why I think the prophet gave Naaman a waiver. Genesis 33:13 says, “And he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds with young are with me: and if men should overdrive them one day, all the flock will die.”
The balance is this. If you have been in Christ for sometime and you are still compromising your faith, thinking that because God waived it for Naaman, he would waive for you too, you are very wrong because the foundation of the Lord stands sure. God will never lower his standard for anyone. Also, I need to stress that we must never compare our consecration and life’s journey with others because you never can tell the covenant, mercy and grace that is speaking for them.
