TOPIC: The Danger Of A Silent Altar (Seeds Of Destiny 26 September 2026)
SCRIPTURE: And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him. – Judges 16:20
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Activity without intimacy with God is calamity.
Seeds Of Destiny For Today 2026 MESSAGE
The story of Samson presents a true picture of what happens when a man possesses great strength without a functional altar of relationship with God. Samson had no prayer life, no study of the Word, no fasting, no devotion.
But Matthew 6:33 admonishes us to, “…seek first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;” Samson came to the point where he was running from one strange woman to another, and the worst of all, was Delilah. He was moving from war to war and had no time for prayer.
You will never see an occasion in Scripture where it says, “And Samson prayed,” except when in terrible crises. The first was when he was dying of thirst. The other time was when he was already in prison, his eyes plucked out, chained, and crying for mercy. Apart from those two moments, there is no other record of Samson saying, “Lord, I worship You.” Not even once.
The truth is that activity without intimacy is calamity. A pastor may be so busy that he has no time to fast, no time to pray, no time to study the Word of God for his own feeding. Show me a person who is so busy that he has no time with God, and I will show you a disaster waiting to happen.
A woman once asked her husband, “You are not praying like you used to.” He replied, “Those times I prayed a lot were the times I was struggling; now things are better.” Imagine the mentality!
Logically and spiritually speaking, the time you think things are better is the time to pray the most, because the devil is watching out for how to tackle you. There is always an unusual calmness before mighty storms.
The worst thing that can happen to a minister of God is to move from altar to altar, engagement to engagement, without ever pausing to hear anything from God for himself.
No one can survive by continuing to breathe out without breathing in. Many are burnt out, whether preachers or worship leaders, because the Lord has left them, yet they are unaware. Activity continues regardless. The Bible says Samson went out as at other times; he knew not that the Spirit had departed from him. He was unaware, still acting as though nothing had changed.
Beloved, a silent altar is dangerous, not because God has stopped speaking, but because we have stopped seeking and listening. Samson’s strength never left him in physical appearance, but the Spirit that once empowered every exploit had quietly departed, and he did not notice. Do not let your gifting outrun your relationship with God. The moment your altar of communion with Him goes silent, ask Him not merely to keep speaking, but to return.
REMEMBER THIS: Activity without intimacy with God is calamity.
ASSIGNMENT(S):
- Examine your prayer life honestly: is it thriving, or it has gone silent beneath the noise of activity?
- Set aside undistracted time this week to seek God for yourself, not for what to preach to others.
- If you sense distance from God, ask Him to return.
PRAYER: Father, forgive me for every lukewarm altar in my life. Let my relationship with You never be replaced by activity, however good it seems. Restore my true intimacy with You and let Your Spirit remain evidently active upon my life, Lord in Jesus’ Name.
