THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: A heart cannot be perfect with God while it is secretly kept for something else.
Seeds Of Destiny For Today 2026 MESSAGE
The story of Solomon was as sad as it was inspiring. Solomon’s turning to the worship and service of other gods was the saddest part of his story. Scripture records that when Solomon was old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not perfect with the Lord, as the heart of David his father had been (1 Kings 11:4).
He went after Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom, the abomination of the Ammonites. He did evil in the sight of the Lord and did not go fully after God, as David his father had done. He erected strange altars for all his strange wives, who burnt incense and sacrificed to their gods on those altars.
Consider these questions: how many temples did Solomon build for God? One. How many wives did he have? Seven hundred. How many shrines did he build for them? Seven hundred. This was the same Solomon who should never have been near the throne at all, given the circumstances of his birth, yet God raised him up in mercy. The same man ended up servicing seven hundred altars of idolatry.
The Lord was angry with Solomon because Solomon had turned his heart away from Him. Solomon turned his heart away from the God who appeared to him not once, but twice, and had commanded him not to go after other gods. Yet he kept not what the Lord commanded.
Many of us have never seen God face-to-face, even once; yet Solomon encountered Him twice and still turned away from Him, building shrines for his wives’ idols. Like Solomon, our departure from God may not be entirely of our own making; the wrong spouses, friends and associates around us can gradually turn our hearts away from Him.
Who is your closest friend, and in what direction are they leading you? Perhaps you married someone against all counsel, and that person is now pulling you away from God. If a spouse is stopping you from serving God, ask the Lord to unveil the truth about that person to you.
Some people maintain secret altars and shrines in their bedrooms and secretly patronise diviners, without even their own families knowing about it.
What is the use of attending church if you have not yet decided which God you truly want to serve? If Baal is your god, serve him, and if the Lord is your God, serve Him. Do not prevaricate, do not straddle both worlds. Mixing the two is like trampling on a naked wire; some people have been electrocuted spiritually and never knew what struck them.
Beloved, prevarication is not neutrality; it is defection in slow motion. Solomon did not wake up one morning and renounce God; he simply drifted, allowing shrine after shrine to rise beside the one temple he had built, until his heart was no longer perfect with the Lord. That same drift awaits anyone who tolerates divided loyalty for the sake of peace, or for relationships they are unwilling to confront. There is no safety in hedging between God and other strange altars.
REMEMBER THIS: A heart cannot be perfect with God while it is secretly kept for something else.
ASSIGNMENT(S):
- Identify any area where you have been hedging your commitment to God rather than serving Him whole-heartedly.
- Examine your closest relationships and what direction they are leading you in life.
- Remove any hidden compromise, altar, or divided loyalty in your life without delay.
PRAYER: Father, forgive me for any form or act of spiritual prevarication in my heart. Help me to serve You whole-heartedly without any hidden allegiance. Let my heart be perfect with You, Lord in Jesus’ Name.
