TOPIC: With God, Victory Is Sure!
READ: Psalm 135:10-18 (KJV)
10 Who smote great nations, and slew mighty kings;
11 Sihon king of the Amorites, and Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan:
12 And gave their land for an heritage, an heritage unto Israel his people.
13 Thy name, O Lord, endureth for ever; and thy memorial, O Lord, throughout all generations.
14 For the Lord will judge his people, and he will repent himself concerning his servants.
15 The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.
16 They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not;
17 They have ears, but they hear not; neither is there any breath in their mouths.
18 They that make them are like unto them: so is every one that trusteth in them.
THE MESSAGE:
Our text gives a list of some of the kings, kingdoms and territories defeated by the people of Israel as they moved through the wilderness over a period of 40 years, during their journey from Egypt to the Promised Land.
The children of Israel fought at least 33 kings on their way (Joshua 12:1-24). They defeated them and took their land as a heritage. These kings and their kingdoms were stronger and mightier than Israel in terms of military power and technological advancement (Deuteronomy 1:1-2; 4:38). But Israel defeated them because God was with them to fulfil the promises He made on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Deuteronomy 9:3-5).
In the same way, we are assured of victory today over any battles we may be engaged in, if we put ourselves into God’s hands. God is our ever-present help in trouble, who also endures forever. It is of no use trusting in idols of whatever form, since they are man-made objects without any life in them. Worse still, those who make or use them will end up like them. Do you go to Church and also serve idols? Repent, confess your sins and become a true follower of Christ.
PRAYER: Your name, O Lord, endures forever: Please help me to trust You fully always.
