TOPIC – Jesus, Greater Than ‘Your Village People’

READ: Colossians 2:11-17 (NKJV)

  1. In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ,
  2. buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with [Him] through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.
  3. And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,
  4. having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
  5. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
  6. So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths,
  7. which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.

THE MESSAGE:

One of the common expressions today in Nigeria is ‘your village people’; this has somehow become the valid explanation of many concerning any challenge they are going through.

Even when one does not want to believe this of what s/he is going through, others insist on his behalf that is the only logical explanation for passing through any undesirable experience. My worry is that this belief has created fear in the minds of many a Christians. It seems to be elevating the powers of evil; and it gets Christians preoccupied with activities to stop ‘village people’ rather than bearing authentic witness for Christ. Is this not a contradiction? What Scripture clearly teaches, point in a very different direction: “…having wiped out the handwriting of ordinances against us, which was contrary to us” (verse 14).

No sin is greater than the blood of Christ; His blood can cleanse any sin. No power, covenant or curse is greater than the cross of Christ; His cross brought us victory over all the powers of the evil one. Next time you hear, ‘your village people are pursuing you’, insist that according to Scripture, it is goodness and mercy that are following you. Your life in Christ is insured if you will rise up in faith and live for Him.

ACTION: Insist that no weapon formed against you shall prosper.
