TOPIC: Searching For Souls

READ: Mark 2:13-17 (KJV)

13 Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him, and he began to teach them.

14 As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.

15 While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him.

16 When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

17 On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

THE MESSAGE:

After teaching the multitude by the Sea of Galilee, Jesus moved on and saw Levi (also called Matthew), at the tax office. On invitation from Jesus to follow Him, Matthew obeyed. At a dinner in Matthew’s house, Jesus with His disciples, sat and ate with many tax collectors and sinners. The scribes and Pharisees demanded to know why Jesus ate and drank with tax collectors and sinners, and in His response, Jesus informed them that only a sick person needs a physician and that He came solely to call sinners to repentance.

Jesus came to seek and to save lost souls (Luke 19:10). The quest to search for souls made Jesus to go to the sea side, to the tax office, and to a dinner with sinners. His goal was to win souls for the kingdom of God. To win sinners for Christ, Christians need to go out for evangelism, to where the sinners are. Do you make it a point of duty to go out and preach the Gospel? This will be hard, except you are born again and filled with the Holy Spirit. Are you a Jesus’ follower or are you an online follower? If you are a follower of Jesus, then preach the word (2 Timothy 4:2).

PRAYER: Dear Lord, please grant me grace to search and preach to souls.
