TOPIC: Look Before You Leap

READ: 1 Corinthians 11:23-28 (NKJV)

  1. For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the [same] night in which He was betrayed took bread;
  2. and when He had given thanks, He broke [it] and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
  3. In the same manner [He] also [took] the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink [it,] in remembrance of Me.”
  4. For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
  5. Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks [this] cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
  6. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

THE MESSAGE:

Today is Maundy Thursday, when we commemorate the Lord’s Supper. On that night Jesus was betrayed, He took bread, broke it and gave to His disciples to eat as His body, in remembrance of Him. Similarly, He did the same with the cup of wine which is the new covenant in His blood, for them to drink in His remembrance. As often as they participated in the Holy Communion, they proclaim the Lord’s death till He returns. However, they were to examine themselves and be prepared or fit to participate in it in a worthy manner, so as not to participate in an unworthy manner. Christians should be careful of their lifestyle before taking the Holy Communion. Participation should come after a critical self-examination, confession of sin and purity of living.

Do you live in sin, tell lies, deceive people, gossip, quarrel with your neighbours, entice the opposite sex, commit fornication or adultery and still go to the Lord’s Supper? You cannot continue in sin and think that God does not see you or care, and then you want to come and enjoy His blessings (Ezekiel 8:12). Repent today and avoid attracting judgement to your life!

PRAYER: Loving Father, help me to prepare before participating in the Lord’s Supper, Amen!
