TOPIC: Share The Good News (I)
READ: Luke 2:8-14 (NKJV)
- Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.
- And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.
- Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.
- “For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
- “And this [will be] the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
- And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
- “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
THE MESSAGE:
Have you ever been sent to deliver a message that would gladden the heart of someone? If yes, how did you feel after sharing the message? You rejoiced with the person, I believe! At Christmas, we have good news to share. This was the situation with the shepherds while watching over their flocks by night, when an angel appeared to them to bring them good tidings (news) of great joy which would be to all people. The good news, it was said, would bring great joy to all people. And what is the good news itself? “For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior; who is Christ the Lord” (verse 11). This is the message that is shared at Christmas. As an angel announced this good news to the shepherds, an innumerable company of angels joined in announcing this good news as they sing praises to God for His good-will to men, manifested in His sending of the Messiah (verses 13,14).
Since it is matter of great joy to all people, the message of Christmas is not to be kept secret. The angel proclaimed it to the shepherds, the choir of angels sang it, so too you should proclaim it and sing it. Tell it to whoever you please. Proclaim it on the mountaintops; proclaim it in the valleys that Jesus Christ is born.
PRAYER: Lord, may I not relent in sharing the Good News this Christmas and beyond, Amen.
