TOPIC: The Word Became Flesh
READ: John 1:1-14 (NKJV)
- In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
- He was in the beginning with God.
- All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
- In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
- And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
- There was a man sent from God, whose name [was] John.
- This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.
- He was not that Light, but [was sent] to bear witness of that Light.
- That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
- He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.
- He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
- But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
- who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
- And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
THE MESSAGE:
John in this passage makes it clear to us that the Word was an Agent of creation. He illustrated this further by telling us that all Jesus taught and did were tied inseparably to who He is. Jesus was fully Man and fully God. He has always existed; He is the Creator and Sustainer of all things, the Source of eternal life and His life brings light to the world. God is light and in Him, there is no darkness at all (1 John 3.9). Christ has chosen to reflect His light through His followers, to an unbelieving world. Principally, to make ready the way of the Lord, is our duty as lights in the world.
The world today is full of darkness. Unfortunately, there are those who claim that they are Christians but are still operating in darkness as a result of lack of discovery of the life of Christ. No man can truly walk in light until he or she has been impacted by the life of Christ.
As you celebrate Christmas today, allow the light of Christ to shine into your life. All who welcome Christ as Lord and Saviour are reborn spiritually and when we follow Christ, the true Light, we can avoid walking blindly and falling into sin. The new birth rearranges our attitudes, desires and motives, thereby making us His faithful followers. This fresh start is available to all who truly turn to Him.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I welcome You into my life. Make me a beacon of light in this dark world. Amen.
