TOPIC – Glorious Assurance
READ: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (NKJV)
- But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.
- For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
- For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive [and] remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.
- For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
- Then we who are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
- Therefore comfort one another with these words.
THE MESSAGE:
Death is an ever-present reality. This was why the Thessalonian Christians were concerned about the fate of their fellow believers who had died. Apostle Paul therefore addressed the issue of those who fall asleep (verse 13) pointing out that every Christian has a glorious hope. He also reaffirmed that the real Christian hope is based on the return of Jesus Christ. Christians already possess salvation, but one day, they will enjoy its benefits forever in Jesus’ presence. Those who are dead will rise on the resurrection day.
The greatest asset you have as a Christian in this life is your faith and you can’t sacrifice it for anything in life. In fact, you must sacrifice everything to keep it. Jesus gives meaning to both your present and future life and without Him, your life is worth nothing. With Him, you have nothing to fear as He holds the key to your life. Let the assurance of hope He gives strengthen your faith in God. Cherish your faith, guard it jealously and encourage others to do likewise. Your fellowship with God makes you a fortunate person.
PRAYER: Rock of ages, cleft for me and let me hide myself in Thee.
