TOPIC: Advent Sunday

READ: Revelation 22:7-11 (NKJV)

  1. “Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed [is] he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”
  2. Now I, John, saw and heard these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things.
  3. Then he said to me, “See [that you do] not [do that.] For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.”
  4. And he said to me, “Do not seal the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is at hand.
  5. “He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still.”

THE MESSAGE:

You are officially welcome into this New Year in the Church Calendar. Advent Sunday marks the start of the Advent season, a period of anticipation and preparation for the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Today’s passage is a doxology from the book of Revelation.

Having revealed many prophecies given to him about end-time events, John ended his book with an admonition about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, saying that Jesus is coming quickly. In a similar vein, Jesus Christ’s farewell message to John (and by extension the entire world) is essentially centered on His return, and He pronounced a blessing for those who will keep the prophecy of the Bible (verse 6).

Friend, Christ’s second coming is a sure prophecy that must certainly come to pass. Are you ready for the coming of the Lord? You can make yourself ready by keeping the faith of Jesus that was committed to us by our fathers. When you begin to keep God’s word, you will find yourself earnestly waiting and desiring for the coming of the Lord. This preparation calls for consciousness in the way we live our lives (1 Corinthians 7:29-35).

PRAYER: Almighty God, incline my heart to keep Your word in preparation for Christ’s second coming. Amen
