TOPIC – Filled With The Knowledge Of God’s Will

READ: Colossians 1:9-14 (NKJV)

  1. For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
  2. that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing [Him,] being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
  3. strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy;
  4. giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.
  5. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed [us] into the kingdom of the Son of His love,
  6. in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

THE MESSAGE:

I wondered what to do with a young man who had just committed his life to Christ. How do I find time in the midst of many personal engagements and activities to disciple him? What times should I schedule to study and pray with him? I found that what the Holy Spirit will have me do first is to bend my knees on his account. I needed to begin to earnestly pray for him, committing him and his newfound faith to the One who alone could keep him. It was in doing this that I found God giving me an insight into how to raise him for the kingdom.

Paul’s first reaction to the news of the faith of the Colossians should be an instruction to us on what to do and how to proceed when there is a new believer or group of new believers: “For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding” (verse 9). Have you learnt to pray this prayer for yourself and others? A believer that is filled with the knowledge of God’s will as well as spiritual understanding will do well.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to genuinely pray for myself as well as others.
