TOPIC: A Pleasant Fellowship

READ: Psalm 133:1-3 (KJV)

1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;

3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.

THE MESSAGE:

Unity of believers in fellowship is described as good and pleasant. It is compared to precious oil poured on the head of Aaron and running down his beard and robes, probably a reference to the anointing oil poured on him at his ordination as High Priest (Exodus 29:7).
It is also compared to dew descending upon the mountains of Zion, which is a place of blessing.

Unity is very important in making any fellowship sweet, pleasant and strong. A threefold cord, for example, is not easily broken, while individual strands can easily be destroyed (Ecclesiastes 4:12). Unity of brethren attracts divine presence which makes them accomplish more (Matthew 18:20). In this way, as Deuteronomy 32:30 puts it, two individual brethren working separately may chase a thousand each, but when they act in unity, divine presence amplifies their efforts so that they can chase 10 thousand.

Let each of us make every effort to contribute to the unity in our family, Church or place of work. This will be possible when we allow the Spirit of God to rule in our hearts and minds. In this way, we shall not be concerned only for our interest, but also for the interest of others. Are you a unifier, or do you divide?

PRAYER: O Lord, make me an agent of unity in Your Church. Amen.
