TOPIC – The Sin Of Ingratitude
READ: Proverbs 30:11-17 (NKJV)
- [There is] a generation [that] curses its father, And does not bless its mother.
- [There is] a generation [that is] pure in its own eyes, [Yet] is not washed from its filthiness.
- [There is] a generation — oh, how lofty are their eyes! And their eyelids are lifted up.
- [There is] a generation whose teeth [are like] swords, And whose fangs [are like] knives, To devour the poor from off the earth, And the needy from [among] men.
- The leech has two daughters — Give [and] Give! There are three [things that] are never satisfied, Four never say, “Enough!”:
- The grave, The barren womb, The earth [that] is not satisfied with water — And the fire never says, “Enough!”
- The eye [that] mocks [his] father, And scorns obedience to [his] mother, The ravens of the valley will pick it out, And the young eagles will eat it.
THE MESSAGE:
We are bound in honor as well as in justice and gratitude, not to disappoint God, who places trust on us. However, our text today gives a true picture of our present generation. It is a generation where people think that they can do whatever they wish and there will be no consequences. It is also a generation that curses its father, and does not bless its mother (verse 11). We live in a generation that is pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness (verse 12). Our passage today deals with the sin of ingratitude which is common in these last days.
The moment our love for God and for our fellow humans begins to grow cold, ingratitude starts to manifest. Jesus spoke about this in Matthew 24:12 where He says, “and because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.” We must realize that we honor men and appreciate God when we obey His words. As we live in the world, we should not allow the world to live in us. We must set a good example for others to follow. We must devote our lives to doing things that please God and attract blessings from God and men. We must show gratitude to those who have influenced our lives, especially positively ways. We must be on the Lord’s side.
PRAYER: Help me, dear Lord, to constantly follow the pathway of honor.
