TOPIC: Bearing The Cross

READ: Matthew 2:13-15 (NKJV)

13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”

14 When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt,

15 and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, m“Out of Egypt I called My Son.”

THE MESSAGE:

Joseph was told in a dream to run away with his wife and the child, Jesus, to Egypt to avoid Herod’s deadly plan. Joseph promptly obeyed and remained in Egypt until Herod’s death. This happened in order to fulfil the prophecy that Christ was called out of Egypt. Satan knew that this “seed of the woman” was to crush his head and restore man’s dominion (Genesis 3:15; 1 John 3:8), so he tried many times to kill Him before He could get to the cross to defeat him (Colossians 2:14-17).

The sudden relocation of Joseph and his family to Egypt for the safety of the child, Jesus, is worthy of note. By implication, Joseph left his carpentry work, relatives, and hometown in a hurry. He was to be in Egypt until the death of Herod, thereby fulfilling the prophecy “And out of Egypt I called my son” (Hosea 11:1). Joseph carried his cross obediently and patiently. All who are connected to Jesus have their peculiar crosses to carry daily. As a Christian, you are expected to suffer for His sake. If we faint not, we will realise that we are fulfilling prophecy. Are you ready to suffer for Christ today so that you will be glorified with Him? (Romans 8:17).

PRAYER: Father, please help me to carry my cross daily to follow Jesus.
