TOPIC – Grade Your Self-Worth
READ: Proverbs 31:1-9 (NKJV)
- The words of King Lemuel, the utterance which his mother taught him:
- What, my son? And what, son of my womb? And what, son of my vows?
- Do not give your strength to women, Nor your ways to that which destroys kings.
- [It is] not for kings, O Lemuel, [It is] not for kings to drink wine, Nor for princes intoxicating drink;
- Lest they drink and forget the law, And pervert the justice of all the afflicted.
- Give strong drink to him who is perishing, And wine to those who are bitter of heart.
- Let him drink and forget his poverty, And remember his misery no more.
- Open your mouth for the speechless, In the cause of all [who are] appointed to die.
- Open your mouth, judge righteously, And plead the cause of the poor and needy.
THE MESSAGE:
Our views about our lives and identities influence how we live. The way we eat, what we eat, and how we conduct ourselves, show how we grade ourselves. Young men and women who believe that they have names to protect are naturally expected to guard their conducts. A king’s son should know that he commands influence and people expect him to protect his image. As a result of this, he is expected to live to protect his identity and the image of his family. In the same vein, remember that you are a royal priesthood and if you are given to wine and sex outside wedlock, you are not worthy to be trusted with valuable things. Learn from Samson (see Judges 16:20) and avoid the mistake of Noah (Genesis 9:20-24).
Beloved, you belong to a kingdom that has a valuable lifestyle. Don’t allow the world to set standards for you. As an ambassador of Christ, your daily lifestyle must be Christ-like. Don’t engage in anything that will destroy your relationship with God. Keep yourself pure and avoid actions or engagements that will influence your conduct negatively. The influence of wine and improper dealing with the opposite sex can make you lose your sense of direction. You have a future and kingdom to protect and so, you need to guard it jealously.
PRAYER: Merciful God, keep watch over me and save my life from wrong, Amen!
