TOPIC: Salvation For All
READ: Acts 2:5-13 (NKJV)
- And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven.
- And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language.
- Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans?
- “And how [is it that] we hear, each in our own language in which we were born?
- “Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
- “Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,
- “Cretans and Arabs — we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.”
- So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “Whatever could this mean?”
- Others mocking said, “They are full of new wine.”
THE MESSAGE:
Jews from all over the world were in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost, with each hearing the disciples speak in his own language. The Holy Spirit that was poured out on the disciples gave them the ability to proclaim the mighty deeds of God through Christ, in different languages (Acts 2:6-8). God used the Pentecost experience to bring the nations of the earth together. In fact, the Holy Spirit broke the language barrier so that the Gospel could reach everybody.
In the Old Testament, God restricted the work of salvation to the Jews. However, through Jesus Christ, He extended His arms of salvation to every race in the world (Revelation 7:9).
Today, Christ’s work of redemption, deliverance and salvation is being proclaimed in almost all languages of the earth, thus bringing the gospel of salvation to all (Titus 2:11). However, in our text, while some observers of the Pentecost spectacle stood in awe and deep meditation on what God was doing, some made jest of God’s move. How are you responding to God’s free offer of salvation today? (1 Corinthians 1:18).
PRAYER: Merciful Father, let Your word mix with faith in my life as I accept Your free offer of salvation today, Amen!
