Senator Dino Melaye made headline news when he allegedly threatened a fellow lawmaker in a closed door executive session to discuss the issue of forgery against the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki.
Calls are now being made for the APC legislator representing Kogi West, a staunch ally of Dr Saraki to tender an apology to Senator Oluremi Tinubu following the outburst in which he threatened to ‘beat up,’ her.
Mr Melaye who was elected in 2015 who was accused of abusing his own wife in the past held a press conference where he explained that he did not use “any insolent abusive degrading or mannerless language,” in the row that took place on July 12.
Despite stating his side of event, many senators present at the meeting have come out to corraborate the attack on Senator Oluremi Tinubu, chairman, senate committee on Women Affairs and APC representative for Lagos Central who is also wife of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the National leader of the All Progressives Congress.
As a result, the president of the APC Youth League which condemns the attack has called for Senator Melaye “to tender an unreserved public apology to the hallowed chamber of the Senate and more importantly to the person of Senator Oluremi Tinubu and the entire Nigerians which he has brought to great disrepute.”
The statement signed by Owolabi Anifowoshe, a national officer of the Youth League called for “authorities to expedite measure within our legal system against Mr Melaye if he fails to appologise within acceptable frame.”
This according to the youngest House of Representative aspirant will “serve as a deterrent to others.”
He stated that “the verbal and almost physical attack of Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi West) on the highly respected Senator Oluremi Tinubu representing the good people of Lagos state from Lagos central senatorial zone and also the admirable wife our the National leader of our great party APC
“We the youths of the party under the leadership of the National President Comrade Atir Farean Solomon, categorically states that Mr Dino Melaye’s action in the executive session of the Senate on Wednesday July 13th 2016, is highly condemnable, disgraceful, disgusting, irritating, shameful and most embarrassing to the collective psyche of not only the Nigerian youths but to the entire nation this is obvious from the avalanche of reactions this disgraceful act have generated.
“Mr Dino Melaye have exhibited convincingly that he lacks the poise, panache, fineness and minimum character to occupy a seat among sane,revered and distinguished men and women in the hallowed chamber of the sacrosanct Nigeria Senate.
“Dino Melaye’s uncouth and unguarded vituperations towards Senator Remi Tinubu have not only brought unquantifiable shame to himself, Kogi west,but also to the Senate and the entire country.
“The Nigerian youths and in particular the youths of our great party APC see this as repugnant, unworthy, therefore see you as an unworthy Mentor and role model.
“We have taken our time to read your side of the story which still confirm our perception of your person and personality, it is a common knowledge across the country that your expertise in women abuse,violation and shameful violent against women is second to known among your peers,but extending it to a respected and humble Senator Oluremo Tinubu is one taken too far and obviously Mr Dino Melaye’s “proverbial monkey have gone beyond the tree branches hence his imminent fall” though it is not too late for you to retrace your steps.”
