Topic: The Best for His Service [Monday January 18, 2016]
Text: 2 Chronicles 2:11-18
Key Verse: “And now I have sent a cunning man, endued with understanding, of Huram my father’s” (2 Chronicles 2:13).
The place of service and the personality to be served often determines the choice of the servant. In every case, great men often look out for the most skillful and talented to enter into their service.
The retinue of a king speak volumes of his glory and wealth and the quality of the service to be rendered. King Solomon had undertaken to build a house for the Lord in fulfillment of the dream of his father, David. With all the necessary materials put in place, he needed the best hands to handle the work. Huram was sent as one of the people to undertake the work. His résumé shows he was the best in the service of the king of Tyre who had recommended him.
The lesson we draw from here is the quality of men that we recommend or take into the service of the King of kings. If building the kingdom of God is truly the greatest and most important service any mortal can be privileged to enter into, we should be careful to select the best hands to do this. It is disheartening to know that some people give themselves to the service of the Lord only after they have retired from the service of the world. When the best of their youthfulness and energy has been used up, that is when they want to give the ‘leftover’ of their lives to God. Although God chooses “the foolish things of this world to confound the wise”, this does not absolve us of our responsibility to see that we improve on our skills so that we can give our best to God.
If we always bear in mind that we have been given the greatest privilege to be in the highest The Bible form of service, we will know that we cannot but give our very best to it. It is only then that we can render an acceptable and rewardable service.
Thought for the day: Don’t throw your leftover to God; He deserves your very best!
