BIBLE READING: 2 Timothy 2:19-22

19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

MESSAGE:

Several years ago, we had a maid who always consumed any leftover food in the house, not minding whose it was. Because of this habit, my children nicknamed her ‘dustbin’. The day I heard them call her that, I scolded them, and they said, “She eats anything; always receiving, never giving.”

One of the vessels in every house is a dustbin or garbage bag. A garbage bag is very useful, but it is a vessel unto dishonour. In your journey with God, you must not be a dustbin in which anyone dumps just anything because you’re static and not progressing. A teenager who is always receiving but who never gives anything out will become a pool of stagnant water that stinks.

Another quality of a dustbin is that it is used to carry waste and not beautiful things. My dear child, you must run away from sin; sin is a form of waste that must not be found in or around you if you don’t want to be a vessel unto dishonour.

Quiz: Which mentor admonished his mentee to remain as a pure vessel?

PRAYER POINT:
Father, please remove every dirt in my life. In Jesus’ name.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
1 Samuel 10:1-11:15, John 6:43-71

HYMN 55: Christian, Seek Not Yet Repose

  1. Christian, Seek Not Yet Repose;
    Hear Thy Guardian Angel Say,
    “Thou Art In The Midst Of Foes:
    Watch And Pray!”
  2. Principalities And Powers,
    Mustering Their Unseen Array,
    Wait For Thy Unguarded Hours:
    “Watch And Pray.”
  3. Gird Thy Heavenly Armour On;
    Wear It Every Night And Day
    Ambush’d Lies The Evil One:
    “Watch And Pray.”
  4. Hear The Victors Who O’ercame;
    Still They Mark Each Warrior’s Way;
    All With One Sweet Voice Exclaim,
    “Watch And Pray!”
  5. Hear, Above AlI, Hear Thy Lord,
    Him Thou Lovest To Obey;
    Hide Within Thy Heart His Word:
    “Watch And Pra!.”
  6. Watch, As If On That Alone
    Hung The Issue Of The Day;
    Pray, That Help May Be Sent Down:
    Watch And Pray.
