MEMORISE: The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want. Proverbs 21:5

BIBLE READING: Luke 15:12-14

12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.

13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.

14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.

MESSAGE:

In today’s Bible reading, we see that while the prodigal son’s father was still alive, the prodigal son requested his inheritance, received it, and travelled abroad to squander it. Soon, he became poor and yearned to eat the food he fed the pigs he cared for. Today’s memory verse also emphasises that the desire to get rich quickly can lead to poverty.

If you want to achieve a high level of financial success as an adult, you must develop financial intelligence from now. You must start learning how to save from even the little your parents give you and manage your finances well.

One of the skills I learnt from my mother when I was younger was the skill of negotiation. Each time I accompanied her to the market, I noticed how she bargained prices with food vendors to ensure we got quality foodstuff at cheap rates so she could save to buy other things we needed. My dear child, the best time to start preparing for your financial future is now. Read books about how to make good financial choices so that you will be happier in the future.

KEY POINT

Being hasty and not learning how to make good financial choices will lead to lack and poverty.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Ezekiel 44:1-45:12, 1 Peter 1:1-12

HYMN 43 – Lead Us Heavenly Father, Lead Us

1 Lead Us, Heavenly Father, Lead Us
O’er The World’s Tempestuous Sea;
Guard Us, Guide Us, Keep Us, Feed Us,
For We Have No Help But Thee,
Yet Possessing Every Blessing
If Our God Our Father Be.

2 Saviour, Breathe Forgiveness O’er Us;
All Our Weakness Thou Dost Know;
Thou Didst Tread This Earth Before Us,
Thou Didst Feel lts Keenest Woe;
Lone And Dreary, Faint And Weary,
Through The Desert Thou Didst Go.

3 Spirit Of Our God, Descending,
Fill Our Hearts With Heavenly Joy,
Love With Every Passion Blending,
Pleasure That Can Never Cloy;
Thus Provided, Pardoned, Guided,
Nothing Can Our Peace Destroy.
