TOPIC: Afraid? (Open Heaven for Teens, 6 June 2025)
MEMORISE: Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. Joshua 1:9
BIBLE READING: MARK 6:45-51
45 And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people.
46 And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.
47 And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land.
48 And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.
49 But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out:
50 For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.
51 And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.
MESSAGE:
Bible scholars have discovered that ‘fear not appears 365 times in the Bible, and some of them attribute it to being because God is telling us “fear not” for every single day of a calendar year. Why, then, should you be afraid? After the death of Moses, God Himself chose Joshua as the leader of the Israelites. Joshua must have been afraid, having walked and worked with Moses, the meekest man on earth, who didn’t find it easy to lead the Israelites – at a time, He even called them stiff-necked people. However, Moses was disqualified from entering the Promised Land because of the same people. Anyone in Joshua’s shoes would have doubted his ability to lead the Israelites. God might have sensed fear in him, and that was probably why He said the words in today’s memory verse.

My dear child, quit being afraid; confront your fears through the word of God. Search through the Bible for passages that speak about your fears, write them out, and paste them on your wall, locker, bedside drawer, book, laptop, et cetera. Constantly speak the word of God into every situation you are experiencing fear in.
CONFESSION:
I banish fear from my life, in Jesus’ name.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
1 Kings 1:1-53, Acts 4:1-37
HYMN 30: When We Walk With The Lord
1 When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
2 Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey.
3 But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.
4 Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.
