Topic – Compliment: Edifying or not? [Thursday June 11, 2015]
“For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:” –Proverbs 5:3
Taking heed to strange compliments has destroyed so many destinies. A young girl in her teenage years craving compliments gets a few from a particular man and suddenly she feels he loves her. A young boy also hears compliments like “you are so handsome, girls should be all over you,” and suddenly, his mindset changes. Both the male and female could take these compliments to the extreme and begin to act differently and more negatively than they should.

While compliments in themselves are good, they should not be taken to the extreme. You should be able to differentiate between a healthy compliment and an unhealthy one. Healthy compliments are born out of a sincere and honest heart, and they are majorly from family and friends.
Unhealthy compliments on the other hand can be likened to flattery; ones done to entice or deceive someone. Never allow compliments from people make you over estimate yourself, so as to engage in wrong behaviours. You are who you are: not because of what people say, but because of what God has made of you and what you accept into your life.
So when someone, maybe of the opposite sex, keeps giving unedifying compliments about your person, dressing, looks or the likes,be more cautious. It may be high time you stop that person or flee. Remember, what other people say is just an opinion; who you are can only be defined and safeguarded by you.
Remain Blessed!
