OPENING PRAYER: Father, equip me with all the resources required to shine in 2026.
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: The leaders should remind the members of last week’s lesson on an encounter in Peniel.
MEMORY VERSE: Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. – Isaiah 60:1 (KJV)
BIBLE TEXT: Matthew 5:14-16 (KJV)
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
LESSON INTRODUCTION: To arise and shine comprise of God’s divine plan and command to transform our lives for the better, and to actualize this transformation by connecting with Jesus Christ. Rising and shining is a choice, and people don’t arise or shine by chance, to shine, you must rise.
LESSON AIM: To help members understand the need to arise and shine.
TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be able to: Know who can arise, and understand the need for their light to shine.
TEXT REVIEW: Matthew 5:14-16
- Every saved soul is the world’s light, glowing for all to see.
- As a believer, don’t hide your light, let it shine for all to see.
- Your good deed must be seen by all.
- When you shine in this world, praises return to Almighty God.
LESSON OUTLINE ONE: WHO CAN ARISE?
- Those who are ready to get up from their slumbering position. Proverbs 6:9-11
- Those who will quit complacency. Genesis 49:14-15.
- Those desirous to quit failure and unproductive adventures.
- Those who want to regain their freedom after a previous defeat or disappointment. Prov 24:16
- Those ready to eschew weariness, tiredness for God’s strength. 1 Kings 19:4-8.
- Those ready to quit the realm of lack of vision or goals. Habakkuk 2:2, Hosea 4:6
LESSON OUTLINE TWO: LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE
What does it mean by saying “let your light shine”?
i. Be an example of righteousness and light up the world. Matthew 5:16.
ii. Stretch a hand of help to others. Matthew 25:35-40.
iii. Be Christ’s disciple in winning souls and mentoring new converts to grow in Christ. Matthew 28:19-20.
iv. Be a good steward in God’s vineyard, protecting and preserving God’s investment. Matthew 25:14-20.
v. Speak the truth in love, no matter the circumstance or situation. Ephesians 4:14-15.
vi. Be what God created you to be, regardless of how it feels or reacts. Ephesians 2:20
vii. Reflect the light of Christ to the world around you.
SUMMARY: When you shine in this world, praises return to Almighty God.
CONCLUSION: Arise and shine is a message of hope to the hopeless, joy for the sorrowful, strength for the weary, awakeness for those slumbering, recovery and victory to the defeated, vision and actions to the stagnated and visionless. A new relationship with God is required before one can claim right to shining.
PRAYER POINTS
- Father, help me to get out of slumbering position.
- Every act of complacency in my life die in Jesus’ name.
- Everything causing me failure and unproductive adventures be silenced
- Father, I regain my freedom from previous defeat and disappointment.
- Father, please deal with weariness, tiredness and give me strength to do your work.
GOLDEN DIET FOR THE WEEK.
MONDAY: Shine as soul winner. Proverbs 11:30
TUESDAY: God revives the soul of those ready to shine for Him and making wise the simple. Psalm 19:7
WEDNESDAY: When you are ready to rise and shine, all roadblocks will be removed. 1 Samuel 17
THURSDAY: Overflowing blessing is another experience that comes when you arise and shine.
FRIDAY: God, please help me to grow in your love.
SATURDAY: Take time to list out what are those things hindering your shining as a believer.
SUNDAY: Work on those things that keep you out of shining prayerfully.
