TOPIC: Procrastination (Scroll down for RCCG House Fellowship 15 February 2026 Anthem)
OPENING PRAYER: Father, please help me to be diligent in whatever assignment is being committed into my hands.
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: The leaders should remind the members of the qualities demanded from broken people and the benefits they receive from being broken.
MEMORY VERSE: I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. – John 9:4 (KJV)
BIBLE TEXT: Ecclesiastes 12:1-7 (KJV)
1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
2 While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:
3 In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,
4 And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;
5 Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:
6 Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
LESSON INTRODUCTION: Procrastination is to delay, to be slow or late in doing
something. Most times when we procrastinate, we struggle to meet deadlines or never get things done as at when required. The God we serve loves and blesses those who are focused on doing the right things at the right time and He shows this by blessing them to put off intentionally the doing of something that should be done. As children of God, we must be diligent in the works and assignments God places in our hands daily so that we can be blessed by Him and get His approval when we meet Him in glory in Jesus name. Revelation 14:12
LESSON AIM: To help members understand what procrastination is and the dangers attached to it.
TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be able to:
- Know what procrastination is
- Avoid procrastination.
TEXT REVIEW: Ecclesiastes 12:1-7
- God wants us to serve Him with our strength, and the younger we are, the more effective we are.
- The glory of the youth is his strength, and so we must serve the Lord diligently when we are young
- As we get older, our strength and energy diminish, efficiency will reduce.
- Delay in doing the needful at the right time may be costly.
LESSON OUTLINE ONE: PROCRASTINATION IS DANGEROUS
Procrastination can lead to a variety of dangers and negative effects, such as poor academic performance, poor finances, career, business and ministerial failure, neglect, etc. Some of the dangers are:
a. YOU MISS OPPORTUNITIES. Ecclesiastes 3:1. There is time for preparation to make use of opportunities that God brings our way. We must spend time studying our books, handling our school or work assignments, preparing for job interviews, preparing our sermons, etc. When you delay in doing these things at the right time, you will not be able to deliver good results, make the right impression, thereby missing opportunities for your growth, your advancement or make a positive impact in your ministry.
b. BAD REPUTATION: Ephesians 5:15-16. People could stop depending on you because they are worried that you will simply procrastinate and not deliver on your tasks and promises. You lose the trust and confidence of people, and you are perceived as someone who is not serious and foolish.
c. FAILURE TO FULFIL PURPOSE: Proverbs 22:29. Delay in taking action on your plans, goals and assignments will lead to failure to fulfil purpose in life. Procrastination will affect your ability to be diligent in doing the right things at the right time.
LESSON OUTLINE TWO: AVOID PROCRASTINATION.
To avoid procrastination is to avoid delaying to do what needs to be done, and to achieve this, you must do the following:
- SELF EXAMINATION: 1 Corinthians.11:31, Galatians 6:4. You must understand and assess yourself to know why you always delay in doing things that require your attention. Is it laziness, lack of knowledge, etc.
- PRAYER: Luke 18:1. Take your identified problem or weakness to God in prayer. Isaiah 41:10, Psalm 18:6. God wants us to succeed in whatever He has placed in our hands, and so we need to invite God to take charge. He will help us to prioritise our time. For example, if you are dealing with laziness; you should ask for self-control. If you are dealing with fear or anxiety, self-confidence, etc, you should ask God to give you boldness and the spirit of excellence. 2 Timothy 1:7
- BEGIN TO PRIORITISE YOUR TIME. James 2:26. Faith without works is dead. When you commit your works to God in prayer. He begins to open your eyes to what and how you should prioritise your time. Be diligent to set your plans and assignments and place them in the right priority. Once you do this, begin to set your time to do what is required to accomplish them at the right time. As you continually ask God for help in prayer, He will help you to complete them at the right time. Psalm 37:5, Deuteronomy 30:9
SUMMARY: Jeremiah 29:11 reveals to us that God’s thoughts is to fulfil our purposes in life. However, Ecclesiastes 3:1 also tells us that there is time for everything on earth. Therefore, to fulfil purpose, we cannot afford to delay to do what must be done today till tomorrow. We must make use of the time available to us each day in order to accomplish our assignments on earth.
CONCLUSION: God expects us to use our time for His glory, therefore we must be wise and make the most of our time. Ephesians. However, many of us know that we let procrastination makes us fail God on many of the assignments God has entrusted into our hands. Make up your mind and change the narratives for the better!
