LESSON INTRODUCTION: A pollutant is a harmful substance, when released into the environment, it brings undesired effects, adversely, unfavorably affects the usefulness of resources. Ingratitude is a hazardous pollutant which should be kept out of our environment. Ingrates disrupt the natural order, harmony amongst the brethren. God hates ingrates because it contaminates others who want to be grateful to God.

LESSON AIM: To make members understand the dangers of being an ingrate.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be able to;

  • Know, learn why God hates ingratitude and its effects.
  • Know, learn blessings received when you are grateful.

TEXT REVIEW: Genesis 3:11-13

  • Ingratitude will never allow individuals to apologize for his mistake.
  • Human being likes to push their errors on others instead of accepting the blames.
  • When you show ingratitude, you will experience limitations to the desired height divinely programmed
  • Question being asked by God from the ingrates is how could you do such a thing”

LESSON OUTLINE ONE: INGRATITUDE.

Ingratitude simply means lack of appreciation for kindness or especially a gift received. In Genesis, Abraham showed ingratitude by blaming God for the gift of Eve, Korah stirred up rebellion against Moses for not being contented with what God gave him.

Let’s look at what can cause ungratefulness;

a. Wrong upbringing by parents. Many children failed because their parents did not teach them how to say thank you to every kindness received,

b. Sense of entitlement: Believing you deserve something based on your background or perceived worth.

c. Lack of contentment: 1 Timothy 6:6. Many don’t see reason to be grateful once their desires are not acquired or granted.

d. Bad Habit: 1 Samuel 2:9. Some believe the height they reached was through their efforts.

e. Unmet expectations.

f. Evil comparism. Example of Korah.

g. Pride and arrogance: When you study Samson, he lost God’s mandate for his life through pride

LESSON OUTLINE TWO: BENEFITS OF GRATITUDE.

It is more beneficial to us to show heartfelt appreciation to God than incurring His anger for being an ingrates.

Let us look at the benefits of thankful attitude;

a. Being divinely secured from impending dangers.
b. Battles of the thankful belongs to God.
c. God’s faithfulness is always shown to the thankful. 1 Chronicles 16:34.
d. Treacherous enemies can never prevail over the thankful. Psalm 35/19
e. God’s dealings and decisions to the thankful is just. Psalm 119:62
f. The little of the thankful is blessed and multiplied. John 6:11-13.
g. A thankful heart receives fulfilment of divine promises.

SUMMARY: Every grateful heart will reach a meaningful height.

CONCLUSION: You say, I am rich with everything I want, I don’t need a thing, and you don’t realize that spiritually you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked (Revelation 3:17). God looks at ingrates as an empty person, you may be thinking you are full but you are a fool, your altitude is determined by your gratitude.

WEEKLY ACTIVITY: Mention five biblical characters that died shamefully because of an act of ingratitude.

PRAYER POINTS.

  1. Father, I thank you for seeing another Redeemed calendar year.
