OPENING PRAYER: Father, teach me to walk circumspectly in Jesus‘ name. (Scroll down for RCCG Sunday School 22 March 2026 HYMN)
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: The teacher should review the lesson for the previous week.
BIBLE PASSAGE: Daniel 2:20-23 (KJV)
20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:
21 And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:
22 He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.
23 I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king’s matter.
MEMORY VERSE: And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment. – 1 Chronicles 12:32 (KJV)
LESSON INTRODUCTION: Issachar was the fifth son of Jacob and Leah, and the ninth son overall of the patriarch (Genesis 30:17–18). He had four sons (Genesis 46:13), and went with his father to Egypt, where he died and was buried. Afterwards, his descendants formed one of the tribes of Israel. By the end of the wanderings of Israel through the Sinai desert, they numbered 64,300 fighting men (Numbers 26:23–25). What is most evident is that by the time of David, they were known supremely for their wisdom. They understood the “signs of the times” and how best to live in light of them (1 Chronicles 7:1–5; 12:32).

- He giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding. v21b.
- ………………………….. v22.

LESSON OUTLINES:
- UNDERSTAND TIMES AND SEASONS
- KNOW WHAT TO DO
LESSON OUTLINE 1: UNDERSTAND TIMES AND SEASONS
A. The Bible tells us that:
- There are various seasons (Genesis 8:22; Ecclesiastes 3:1–8).
- Times and seasons are in God’s hands and can change (Daniel 2:21a).
B. To navigate times and seasons,
- God gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding (Daniel 2:21c).
- He reveals the deep and secret things to His children (Deuteronomy 29:29; Daniel 2:22).
- The men of Issachar had an understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do. It takes a mature believer to discern the times (Hebrews 5:14).
C. “Understanding the times” also refers to:
- Having insight into current circumstances, trends, and seasons in which we live (Romans 13:11).
- It involves being aware of the cultural, political, social and spiritual climate (Daniel 2:27–28), and recognising opportunities and challenges (1 Timothy 4:1–3).
CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Do you have a different or additional insight about “understanding of times”? Share with the class.
LESSON OUTLINE 2: KNOW WHAT TO DO
A. The men of Issachar understood the signs of the times and knew how to live in the light of them.
B. To know what to do is to be full of ideas and skills, vision-driven, and strategic. Also, it is the ability to:
- Make informed decisions: Go back to school (get a degree, master’s, PhD), attend conferences, learn a trade, acquire a skill, etc. (Genesis 26:1–3).
- Respond appropriately to challenges and opportunities (Genesis 26:12–22; Matthew 2:13–14; John 2:3–5).
- Be wise and authentic: live a life of impact for the cause of Christ (1 Peter 3:10–11).
- Engage in kingdom activities (Matthew 6:33).
- Fulfil your purpose and calling (John 18:37).
CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Share an instance when you were faced with a situation and you knew what to do.
CONCLUSION: The men of Issachar were sought after for counsel on political and spiritual matters and they played an important role in the leadership of Israel. You can be like them.
EVALUATION: Highlight three things that knowing what to do could mean.
CLOSING PRAYER: Father, help me to understand times and seasons and know what to do per time in Jesus’ name.
ASSIGNMENT: To be like men of issachar, state five (5) things to do (2×5=10 Marks).

RCCG Sunday School HYMN
- O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
O how I love Thee well,
I am happy, it makes me glad
To rejoice at Thy birth. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Thy friendship suits me well,
Both young and old will sing Thy song,
We long for Sunday School. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Christ was Thy first teacher,
The Holy Spirit, great teacher,
Does manifest in thee. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds black with rain,
I’ll be in Sunday School. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?
