TOPIC — Keep Going; Don’t Retreat (TREM Devotional 15 May 2025)

“And he moved from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it. So he called its name Rehoboth, because he said, ‘For now the Lord has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.’” (Genesis 26:22 NKJV)

MESSAGE:

One of the secrets of failure in life, is comfort. If you become comfortable, and you feel you have arrived, then you are courting failure. As long as you are still breathing, there is always another level to attain in life because God’s expectation is that you go from glory to glory! The scripture says in Proverbs 4:18 (KJV) “But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” You may encounter an obstacle as you attempt to make progress, it does not matter; it is all part of the process. When you encounter obstacles, keep moving. Don’t retreat until you crush the obstacles before you, because that is where your testimony lies.

Isaac dug up a new well after he had successfully reopened and renamed the wells of Abraham his father, but the people of Gerar contested for it, but that did not deter him. He persevered with digging up new wells and outlasted his enemies. Some of us have given up on our dreams, simply because we faced contentions and challenges in pursuit of that which we know God has called us to do. One thing you must realize is that, the presence of contentions and challenges in life, does not equate the absence of God, and vice-versa. That you failed at something does not mean you should remain on the ground. In fact, it is only a defeat if you accept it as a defeat.

The Bible says that the righteous may fall seven times – ‘perfect failure’ – but there is a bounce-back mechanism that ensures that he comes back bigger and better, because he/she is in Christ. Like I’ve always said and it bears repetition, there is nothing like fatal failure for the one who has the life of Christ in them. For you to fail, you, the beloved child of God – impossible!

This is why you will arise and keep going; you cannot afford to retreat. It is too late in the day to give up on the manifestation of God’s promises to you; it is your inheritance in Christ. In everything that involves man, the human element cannot be overruled. However, that you meet a roadblock does not mean that you should throw away a godly idea. What is needed is consistency. If there is a fall, we rise, pick up the pieces of our lives, and start afresh. That was how Isaac got to his Rehoboth. Consistency – never quitting! It is never too late to revive any lost opportunity. Everything is possible!
