TOPIC: The Revelation Of Christ (TREM Devotional 5 May 2025)
“He saith unto them, but whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:15-16 KJV)
MESSAGE:
Jesus asked His disciples, who do men say that I am? And they answered, some say that you are John the Baptist, some say Elias, and others say Jeremiah, or one of the prophets. He went further to ask, but who do you say that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, you are the Christ, Christos, meaning the anointed with one with His anointing, the Son of the living God.
The word Christ here is not the surname of Jesus, like we say Bishop Mike Okonkwo. No. Christ here is telling us His assignment. He is a burden remover and yoke destroyer. This is what Peter unveiled Him as when He answered the question. Then Jesus responded to Peter, “…Blessed art thou Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matt. 16:17-18 KJV)
Peter saw Him in His real identity, as the Christ, while others saw him as an incarnate of the prophets of old. They mention Elijah because he performed miracles like Elijah. He was assumed to be Jeremiah, because they saw him cry like Jeremiah. Others said one of the prophets, because of the prophecies he declared to them. He was also called John the Baptist because like John, they saw Him confront the religious rulers.
However, Peter saw beyond what others were seeing. He said, you are the Christ, the anointed one with His anointing. And Jesus said, now I have heard the right answer. I want a church that will have understanding of who I am in their lives. He said it is that kind of Church that will manifest Me to the world. I want a Church that can see me in the fullness of who I am.
Beloved what are you seeing? I pray that every form of blindness shall be removed from your eyes, and you will see well.
