TOPIC: Covenant Will Speak For You (TREM Devotional 5 September 2025)

“And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” – 2 Samuel 9:1 (KJV)

MESSAGE:

Beloved, when David became king of Israel, the first thing he did was to ask if there was anyone left in the household of Saul to whom he might show kindness for Jonathan’s sake. This kindness wasn’t based on the person’s merit, it was rooted in covenant.

Mephibosheth was not there when Jonathan made a covenant with David, yet the covenant extended to him. Even though he was lame in his feet, David sent for him. He was living in Lodebar, a place of no pasture, barrenness, and obscurity. Perhaps he thought his life was over, that no one loved him, and that the king was after him to destroy him.

This is how some believers feel when they’ve made mistakes, they run from God instead of to Him. But beloved, the covenant of God’s mercy and grace is greater than your failures.

The Bible says, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16). You don’t need to shrink away from God when you fall. That is the moment to run to Him.

When Mephibosheth was finally brought before David, he bowed in fear. But David reassured him: “For your father’s sake, by covenant, you will no longer remain in Lodebar. From now on, you will eat at my table as one of my sons.” Covenant lifted him from shame to honor, from rejection to acceptance.

Child of God, God is a Covenant Keeper. Because of Jesus, the everlasting covenant speaks for you. You are not qualified by your works, you are qualified by His blood. Even in your weakness, His covenant of grace will find you, bring you out of “Lodebar,” and set you at His table of abundance.

Beloved, The covenant you have in Christ is stronger than your struggles. God’s faithfulness will always speak louder than your failures.
